Individual membership

There are six categories of ESA individual membership:

  1. Active member:
  2. Affiliate member:
    • A certified physician not working in the clinical practice of anaesthesiology.
    • A scientist who, while not engaged in administering clinical anaesthesia, is nevertheless interested in anaesthesiology.
    • Non-physicians working in anaesthesiology-related areas
    • A certified anaesthesiologist, or a certified physician, or a scientist, or a non-physician who resides outside a European country (as defined by the World Health Organisation).
  3. Eastern European Active member:
    • Reduced rates for Active member from the EE countries due to unfavourable exchange of currencies.
  4. Trainee member:
    • a physician in training, employed in an anaesthesiology department and whose training programme is accredited by a national governmental body or by the national Board of Anaesthesiolog
      Applicants for trainee membership must attach a letter from the Director of the training programme stating the programme termination date, otherwise the rate for affiliate member will be applied.
  5. Retired member
    • An individual who would have qualified as an Active and/or Affiliate Member, but who has retired from employment or self-employment, and has reached the age of 61 years.
    • An Active or Affiliate Member who, for reasons of ill health, has retired from paid employment.
  6. Nurse member
    • A nurse working in the field of Anaesthesiology.

ESA Membership runs from January to December each year.
Please note that online ESA Membership payment is by CREDIT CARD only! (American Express/Mastercard/VISA). Membership fees are non refundable

Note: please make sure to log in via the Members Gate. If you do not log in, or are not an ESA member, you will receive a 'Page not found' or 'Permission denied' message.
  • ESA members receive a free subscription to the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (published monthly + supplements), and will be able to access the EJA directly from the new Journal site - www.ejanaesthesiology.com - as well as the publications Current opinion in Anaesthesiology and Current Opinion in Critical Care Medicine. For full instructions, please access the 'My Member Benefits' section.
  • They are entitled to substantial discounts on the registration fee to the Euroanaesthesia Congress.
  • ESA members receive the ESA Newsletter four times a year.
  • The ESA Grant Programmes (Research Grant, Young Teaching Recognition Award and Trainee Exchange Programme) are open to ESA members only.
  • ESA members also have full access to all features of the ESA internet site.
